Rejections wreaks havoc on creativity.
Just as quickly as your inspiration ignites, your fire can be put out without a warning. It dwarfs your creativity and it puts you quickly into a complete panic or anxiety attack. Whether it’s a juried art show or a job application, rejection feels awful. Quite often you feel like you are the cause. I am here to tell you its not all your fault.
The gifts and talents you posses are not always received as you intended. How many times have you said something or done something with positive intentions only for it to be misinterpreted? Its tough! Really tough to communicate your intentions.
In the time its taken me to think of what I am going to write and how I am going to write this post my inspiration was deflated by some negative news. I was rejected. The job I thought was mine – the one I had in my back pocket was not mine. It took me some time to recover and move my thoughts towards focusing on the positive and regaining focus. Once I sat to think and calmed down then I was able to get on track to think more creatively. Thoughts and how you handle a situation like the one I just mentioned, requires strength and mind power.
How do you move your mind from a negative experience back to a positive one?
- Try not to focus on the problem. Acknowledge the emotion and work through it.
- Remember that you did your best and try not to focus on what you could of, would of or should of done.
- Sometimes the rejection is subjective. The interpreter is reading things in their own way and you have unique gifts and talents that someone else will appreciate.
